The Spinney’s very own ‘Fairy Godmother’

The Spinney Care Home in Chingford has recently made a heartfelt wish come true for one of its cherished residents with a trip to the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

When was the last time you had a dream come true? Here at The Spinney in Chingford we consider ourselves more than just carers – in fact we even have our own fairy godmother here at the care home on Forest View.

Julie is officially our Lifestyle Co-ordinator but when a resident reveals a wish through our ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, that’s when she waves her magic wand (puts in a lot of leg work) and ta daa – the wish is her command!

The Spinney, situated on Forest View, is an award-winning, 43-bed care home, where residents thrive in a compassionate and caring environment. The dedicated team of specialists offer residential, dementia and palliative care and are dementia and palliative care specialists.

We were lucky enough to have The Royal Albert Hall Songbook perform for us in the home and for our beloved Edna it was the start of a journey that would see her recognise a dream with the help and support of the home.

Three musicians from ‘Albert’s Band’ visited The Spinney for a nostalgic journey through the musical history of the Royal Albert Hall through songs, stories and audience participation.

During the one-hour concert, they performed a series of incredible songs that have been performed at the Hall by artists including Dame Vera Lynn, Sir Tom Jones, The Beatles and Frank Sinatra.

The event awakened a passion in Edna to sample more of the delights the West Ens has to offer and she set her sights on one of the most iconic performances – The Proms

After months of meticulous planning it was Edna’s big night and after a makeover in the home’s hair salon it was time to step out in style for her big night. Edna said, “ It was a fantastic evening, one I will treasure forever.”
